Doctors & Patients | In Black & White (GPTV)

DOCTORS & PATIENTS | IN BLACK & WHITE (GPTV)

In this series, “Doctors & Patients” (Black & White Version), meticulously crafted from a single videotape, viewers witness and analyse five documented consultations between genuine medical practitioners and simulated patients. Through these interactions, viewers can gain valuable insights and observe the dynamic and evolving nature of the doctor-patient relationship.

These consultations cover a spectrum of issues, including the breakdown of doctor-patient relationships, often stemming from power struggles, resulting in chaotic situations. Other problems involve patients intentionally deceiving and manipulating their doctors, breaching patient confidentiality, concerns about poverty, and managing family conflicts. For instance, in the third consultation, a man appears to be there to pick up his wife’s prescription. However, the situation takes a dark turn when truths are revealed. Has he deceived the doctor?

“These dramatisations are perfect for anyone fascinated by analysing the dynamics at play during consultations.”

About the 'Doctors & Patients' tape:

The unique black-and-white videotape is a captivating program made on historically significant vintage equipment. Despite the now obsolete video format, The Audiovisual Centre at the University of London at 11 Bedford Square, London WC1B 3RA, made the tape available upon request. The department has since closed down. However, The Audiovisual Centre at the University of London, which created the tape many years ago, assigned the copyright to Mental Health TV for us to use.
