Today is Stress Awareness Day! Most of us are aware if we are feeling stressed. But what can we do about this? When our lives are full of stress, it's hard to picture a way to change that - most of the time we are feeling 'too stressed' to do it. Not everything can be solved straight away, but there are a few things that can be done to help with stress.
Quality sleep can contribute to stress relief. How? When you have had a good night of sleep, you're more prepared to handle a stressful day.
Stress can affect sleep, which means the next day you may feel the need for more caffeinated beverages. However, these caffeinated beverages may be exacerbating any feelings of anxiety or irritability you have due to your stress. They can also impact your sleep the following night. It's a vicious cycle!
A healthy lifestyle can really help when it comes to stress. Stress can trigger irritable bowel syndrome, and it can lead to comfort eating. However, comfort eating often worsens IBS and mood. Eating high salt and sugar foods can lead to feeling lethargic, which never really helps. Exercise and healthy eating can help to regulate moods and increase motivation.
